The Jackal is seen driving a white Alfa Romeo Spider
Story
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes a living by carrying out assassinations in the best possible way. He soon meets his match in a tough British intelligence officer who pursues him in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. In The Day of the Jackal (1973), the Jackal also drives a white Alfa Romeo, albeit an earlier generation model.
TLDR: Redmayne is good
Reference in Graham Norton I liked: Denzel Washington/Paul Mescal/Saoirse Ronan/Eddie Redmayne/Blossoms (2024). Lynch is poorly acted. Unfortunately, the main characters are not on the same level, which detracts from the otherwise spectacular and high-quality production.
Overall, the story is a viable adaptation
No disrespect to Lynch, it’s just the high standard that Redmayne has set. A more experienced actor could have provided a more believable counterpart/opponent character that would have been needed to challenge the jackal. The character development sort of works, although there are some things left open in the main characters’ stories, but that’s to be hoped for.
The disappointment barometer is constantly running in the background
The locations, the varied interactions, and Redmayne’s delivery of language and the changing characters really add a special layer to the story arc. I’m looking forward to seeing how Se01 ends and how the quality of Se02 is maintained or improved. I hope Lynch relaxes to be less forced and gives a more subtle performance in trying to find Redmayne.
